Nexia TS Congratulates Staff for Representing Singapore in the World Para Athletics Grand Prix (Beijing, China)

June 2017

Singapore, 13 June 2017 – The firm extends its congratulations to staff Chua Meng Koon, who recently represented Singapore in the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Beijing, China (9-16 May) for both Javelin and Shot Put. The international sporting event, organised by the China Administration of Sports for Persons with Disabilities, is part of the nine Grand Prix events across four continents in 2017.

In March 2016, Meng Koon approached the Singapore Disablity Sports Council (SDSC) to go through a series of athletics programme training in Javelin and Shot Put, which eventually culminated in his participation in the 5th China Open Athletics Championship. Nexia TS supported the athlete’s sporting goals by granting him additional paid leave for these periods. Meng Koon works as a Senior IT Executive at the firm.

“Special thanks to my family members, Coach Jaffa, Mr. Loh from SDSC and my colleagues from Nexia TS: Henry Tan, Tan Kah Leong, Tan Swee Wan, Maria Teo and Angeline Peh. With their on-going support and encouragement, I was able to realise my goal of participating in an international sports competition which gave me invaluable sporting exposure.”

Chua Meng Koon, Staff & Athlete, Nexia TS

“We are very proud of Meng Koon’s participation in the recent World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Beijing – being able to take up a new sport and mastering it in a short time span to compete globally is not an easy feat. It takes a lot of hard work, determination and courage. This is something everybody can learn from, not only as an individual but also in business – never giving up, being bold and always pressing forward.”

Henry Tan, Managing Director, Nexia TS

About 2017 World Para Athletics Grand Prix

Athletics has been part of the Paralympic Games since 1960 and always attracts the largest number of spectators. The sport offers a wide range of competitions and events and is open to male and female athletes in all impairment groups. Athletes compete according to their functional classification in each event. Some compete in wheelchairs and some with prostheses, while those who are visually impaired receive guidance from a sighted guide.

Para athletics is governed by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and coordinated by the World Para Athletics Sports Technical Committee. In 2016, the sport was renamed from IPC Athletics to Para athletics and the International Federation was renamed to World Para Athletics.
